Over the Christmas holidays we had a little time off to spend with friends and family. During this time I took the opportunity to make my niece a hobby horse.
I wanted to make something a bit different to the ones I remember  having in my child hood that looked like real horses with their fabrics and marking replicating the real thing.
I decided to make a shabby chic vintage style horse using recycled fabrics, old laces and metal washer details on the halter.
I also wanted to make it personal, so I created a rosette with my nieces name machine embroidered on.Â
To create the facial details I used hand embroidery techniques with a selection of fancy yarns, for texture on the eyelashes.Â

I think this hobby horse could look great in a variety of fabrics. My next idea IÂ think would be creating a cavalry hobby horse using prints from London as the fabric. To create a real military style perfect for a little boy.
